Abba Moro Moves to Establish Teaching Hospital for Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo

The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, PhD, has taken another bold step toward strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

Senator Moro on Wednesday sponsored the University Teaching Hospitals (Reconstitution of Boards, etc.) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which passed its First Reading on the floor of the Senate.

The bill seeks to amend the existing University Teaching Hospitals Act to provide for the establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) Teaching Hospital. It would be recalled that Senator Moro was instrumental in the creation of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, a bill he sponsored and which received presidential assent from former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.

The latest legislative effort is designed to complement that achievement by ensuring that the university has a fully equipped teaching hospital for the practical training of medical students, as well as for improved healthcare service delivery to the people of Benue South and beyond.
