BigNews.ng – A politically conscious Nigerian, Unekwu Joshua Ocheje, has penned a thought-provoking open letter to Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, offering candid advice on the future of his political journey. The letter, which was posted on Ocheje’s official Facebook page, is already gaining traction across social media and political circles.
In the letter, Ocheje expressed deep admiration for Obi’s integrity, humility, and growing national appeal, describing him as a rare figure in Nigeria’s often murky political terrain.
“I admire you deeply and have followed your political journey with strong interest—until recently. This shift is not because you have done anything wrong, but because many of the things we believed you were coming to do are already being implemented by the current government,” he wrote.
Highlighting Obi’s clean record, Ocheje pointed out that despite the smear tactics common in Nigerian politics, the only controversy ever raised against Peter Obi was his decision to save state funds during his tenure as governor—some of which were held in a bank where his family reportedly had shares.

“Even that, to me, is not an issue… It only proves further how clean your record is,” Ocheje added.
⚠️ “Be Wary of the Coalition Trap”
The heart of the letter focused on Obi’s recent moves toward coalition politics, with Ocheje warning that certain political players might be attempting to lure him into a strategic trap designed to weaken his long-term prospects.
“Be wary of those who have now drawn you into their fold—not to build your dream but to quench your fire. This is not really about any ‘coalition’—it is about your ambition, one that many Nigerians across all regions genuinely believe in,” he wrote.
Ocheje argued that any proposed one-term presidency deal for 2027 is a calculated attempt to block Obi’s eligibility and momentum for 2031, a year the writer believes would naturally favor Obi given his organic grassroots support.
“What they aim to do is simple: offer you a one-term presidential deal for 2027, not to support your success, but to block your chance to contest again in 2031,” the letter stated.
He emphasized that any such agreement only becomes valid upon electoral victory and swearing-in as President, urging Obi to avoid binding arrangements ahead of time.
✔️ Coalition: A Bold but Cautious Step
While sounding the alarm, Ocheje also commended Obi’s decision to engage in coalition politics, noting that inclusive governance requires unity and collaboration.
“To move the country forward, both the bad, the good, and the ugly are required… you cannot lead effectively in isolation,” he wrote.
However, he concluded the letter with a bold prediction and heartfelt counsel:
“Don’t waste your resources in 2027. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is likely to win. Instead, prepare strategically for 2031, where your clean record, loyal base, and national appeal will count most.”
The open letter has since sparked conversations among Obi supporters and political observers alike, adding another layer to the ongoing national debate about Nigeria’s political future post-2023.
