The Enugu State Government has taken another major step in strengthening security across the state with the inauguration of newly procured hi-tech equipment and operational vehicles under the Enugu State Security Trust Fund.

Governor Peter Mbah, who presided over the unveiling, disclosed that the new assets include two advanced surveillance drones, 10 Hilux patrol vans, 400 bulletproof vests, and 400 bulletproof helmets. He noted that the acquisitions reinforce earlier investments made by his administration toward ensuring a safer Enugu.

These complement the state’s expanding security infrastructure, which already features a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, a wide network of AI-enabled surveillance cameras, and more than 150 Distress Response Squad (DRS) vehicles equipped with AI-embedded cameras for rapid intervention.

Governor Mbah stated that these efforts have yielded significant impact, with violent crimes reduced by over 80 per cent in the state. However, he emphasized that the government would not become complacent.

“Security is a sector where even a 90 per cent success rate is not enough because one breach can undermine all the progress made,” he said. “This is why we are increasing investments in technology and operational capacity to prevent crime at its early stages and respond swiftly whenever incidents arise.”

The Governor reaffirmed the state’s continued collaboration with the Federal Government to maintain safety and stability in all communities.

He also commended the Trustees of the Enugu State Security Trust Fund for their unwavering support, assuring residents that the government remains committed to making Enugu the safest destination to live, work, and invest.

“Tomorrow is here,” he added, reaffirming the administration’s development agenda.
