Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has announced his candidacy for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adamu made the announcement during a meeting with the State Working Committee of the APC in Lafia, stating that his decision was inspired by a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa.

Serving as IGP from 2019 to 2021, Adamu brings a wealth of experience in leadership and public service. He pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration focused on delivering tangible development across all sectors.
His declaration adds to the list of aspirants vying for the governorship seat in 2027. Governor Abdullahi Sule, the current APC governor, is serving his second term in office. The APC in Nasarawa State has previously stated that it would not allow any individual outside its fold to contest the governorship election under the party’s platform in 2027, emphasizing its commitment to protecting the interests of its members and ensuring the continuity of APC governance in the state.
