Dr. Obinna Simon, a prominent aspirant for Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has called on workers, particularly teachers, in the Area Councils to use their voter cards to hold current chairmen accountable over the delay in implementing the N70,000 minimum wage.

In a statement reflecting his deep concern for the welfare of Nigerian workers, especially teachers, Dr. Simon said that the current economic realities, marked by high inflation, make it impossible for workers earning below N70,000 to meet their basic needs. Drawing from his experience as a teacher, Dr. Simon stressed that poor salaries are severely hindering the ability of educators to provide quality education.

“A hungry teacher can’t impact knowledge on our children and students,” Dr. Simon lamented, emphasizing that teachers earning less than N40,000 per month are being unfairly treated. He called for a united effort from Area Council workers to demand better leadership that will prioritize the welfare of teachers and other workers.

Dr. Simon, who is campaigning on a platform of better working conditions and fair pay, assured Area Council workers that, if elected, his administration would take swift action to implement the N70,000 minimum wage and improve the living conditions of all workers in the FCT.
