Anambra State was thrown into mourning on Tuesday following the brutal killing of a prominent legal practitioner, Barrister Rolex Ifeanyi Iloakasia, and his client shortly after leaving a courtroom in Nanka town.

Barrister Iloakasia, a well-known lawyer and President General of the Aguleri community, was reportedly attacked and shot dead by unidentified gunmen along the Nanka/Agulu border, just moments after concluding a legal matter at the court.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the lawyer and his client were ambushed shortly after entering their vehicle. The assailants, who were riding on a motorcycle, allegedly double-crossed the victims’ vehicle and opened fire at close range. The attackers reportedly fled the scene immediately after the deadly attack, further fueling speculation that the incident was a targeted assassination.
The tragic event has left the Aguleri community and the legal fraternity in deep shock, with many expressing disbelief at the brazen nature of the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, there is growing public outcry for a swift and thorough investigation into the killing, with calls for justice from members of the legal profession and community stakeholders.
The late Barrister Rolex Iloakasia was respected not only for his legal acumen but also for his leadership role in Aguleri. His untimely death has left a significant void in both his community and the legal landscape in Anambra.
