Wike to Commission Two Roads, Flag Off 12 New Projects, and Launch “Light Up Abuja”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday, September 18, 2025, kick off a new phase of infrastructural development in Abuja with the commissioning of two completed roads, the flag-off of 12 new road projects, and the launch of the Light Up Abuja Programme.

According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the projects will span a one-month period, from September 18 to October 16, 2025, and are aimed at boosting infrastructure, easing traffic, and improving the living conditions of residents across the FCT.

Among the roads to be commissioned are the access roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District, and Road ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) together with MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District.

The Light Up Abuja Programme, which will also be launched on Thursday, involves the installation of hybrid solar-powered streetlights across key districts and highways, including Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, the Airport Expressway, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.

Other projects slated for flag-off include the full scope development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye to Ring Road II, the construction of Northern Parkway linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III, provision of access roads to Mabushi Bus Terminal and Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana, and a bypass road with a four-span bridge connecting Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki near the Airport Second Runway.

Also included are the rehabilitation of the 15km Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction, provision of engineering infrastructure in Guzape and Asokoro layouts, and the construction of residences for the heads of major courts in the FCT.

The announcement comes just weeks after Wike flagged off the expansion of water supply to satellite towns, a multi-purpose sports centre in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court in Jabi, and the reconstruction of Karu Road.

With this latest round of projects, the FCT administration says it is reaffirming its commitment to building a modern, functional, and inclusive Abuja that delivers on the renewed hope agenda of the Federal Government.
