A major shake-up has hit the Delta State Government following the resignation of Harrison Gwamnishu, who until now served as Senior Special Assistant on Civil Society and Youth Mobilization to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Gwamnishu, known across Nigeria for his activism and vocal civic engagement, tendered his resignation after the governor’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his official letter to the governor, Gwamnishu made it clear that his decision was based on ideological differences and an unwillingness to be associated with the APC-led government.
“This decision did not come lightly. But remaining in an administration now aligned with the APC would be a disservice to the values I uphold and the people I represent,” he stated.
The move has drawn praise from civil society groups, with many calling it a courageous and principled step in a political environment where defections often go unchallenged.
Gwamnishu’s resignation is being seen as a signal of discontent among young reform-minded appointees within government, and may prompt a wave of similar exits in the coming days.
As reactions pour in, many are watching closely to see whether the governor’s new political alignment will further divide or consolidate his administration moving forward.
