The lawyers representing Jordan Nyesom-Wike have threatened legal action against bloggers and media organisations over reports alleging that their client admitted receiving $2.1 million in an Abuja property transaction, describing the publications as misleading and damaging to his reputation.
In a statement issued by the team lead, Dr. Ogwu J. Onoja, SAN, FCArb., the legal team urged members of the public to disregard what it described as false narratives surrounding proceedings in a pending property dispute before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The case, filed by Safwan Garba G.Y. against Jordan Wike, is registered as Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/008/2026.
According to the lawyers, reports attributed to Sahara Reporters, social media commentator Very Dark Man (VDM) and other online platforms suggested that Wike admitted receiving $2.1 million in connection with the property transaction.
The legal team strongly disputed the reports, insisting that the account circulating online did not accurately represent its client’s position in court.
“Our attention has been drawn to stories on a series of blogs, comments and conclusions on social media by mischief makers and promoters of falsehood,” the statement said.
Wike Denied Meeting Claimant, Lawyers Say
The lawyers maintained that Wike had consistently denied ever meeting Safwan Garba G.Y. or any of his representatives.
They said the position was reiterated when Wike gave evidence in court on September 28 and 30, 2026.
The legal team also questioned a media interview reportedly granted by I.G. Waru, counsel to the claimant, alleging that it contributed to public interpretations of the proceedings that differed from their account of what transpired in court.
The lawyers argued that a case still before the judiciary should not be subjected to what they described as trial by media.
EFCC Petition Raises Further Questions
The statement also addressed reports concerning a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Wike’s legal team, a relevant letter was tendered in court to highlight alleged inconsistencies in the accounts advanced by the claimant and his representatives.
The lawyers further alleged that the claimant did not refer to the document in his pleadings and had not followed up with the EFCC after submitting the letter.
These claims remain the legal team’s account and have not been independently verified.
Lawyers Warn Bloggers, Media Houses
The legal team warned that individuals and media organisations continuing to publish what it considers false allegations against Wike could face civil and criminal proceedings.
It called on platforms that had published the disputed reports to remove them, alleging that the publications could cause serious reputational harm.
“Any member of the public, bloggers or media houses who continue to propagate this blatant falsehood against the person of Jordan Nyesom-Wike will be susceptible to both criminal and civil actions for malicious falsehood, cyberbullying, slander and libel,” the statement warned.
The lawyers said they had previously avoided commenting publicly because the matter remained before the court but considered a response necessary in view of the growing online controversy.
They urged counsel on both sides to uphold professional standards and allow the court to determine the dispute based on the evidence presented.
The statement was signed by Dr. Ogwu J. Onoja, SAN, FCArb., team lead for Jordan Wike.
The $2.1 million allegation remains part of a disputed legal matter. The statement reflects the position of Wike’s legal team and does not constitute a judicial finding. The response of the claimant’s legal team was not included in the statement.
