The Governor of Benue State has welcomed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, to the state, amid renewed efforts by the Nigerian Army to halt the wave of violence and killings that have plagued several communities in recent times.
General Oluyede arrived in Benue today with his Principal Staff Officers and top military leadership to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation and spearhead immediate intervention strategies to curb the incessant attacks by armed herders, militias, and other violent groups.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the Governor expressed deep concern over the continuous loss of lives and displacement of citizens and emphasized that the presence of the COAS demonstrates the Army’s resolve to act decisively.
“The COAS has come not only to assess the situation personally but to take decisive action. He has already ordered the deployment of additional troops and will be holding high-level strategy meetings with all field commanders,” the Governor stated.
According to the Governor, General Oluyede is also scheduled to visit affected communities, boost troop morale, and coordinate frontline operations to restore order and stability.
Bold Military Action Welcomed
The Governor praised the Nigerian Army’s swift response and reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for all lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace across the state.
“Our people deserve protection, justice, and peace. I assure you all that our government remains fully committed to supporting all lawful efforts aimed at ending the senseless killings and restoring peace across all affected communities,” he said.
Call for Calm and Cooperation
He further appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant, urging them to cooperate with security operatives by providing credible intelligence that could aid operations and help flush out criminal elements hiding within communities.
“Together, we will overcome these challenges and usher in a new era of peace and security. May God protect our people and bless the land of Benue,” the Governor concluded.
Benue State has suffered repeated violent attacks in recent years, especially in agrarian communities, leading to mass displacements, humanitarian crises, and heightened security concerns. The Governor’s collaboration with the military is expected to mark a turning point in the ongoing fight for peace and stability in the state.
