Crime-Fighting Excellence Earns AIG Olohundare Jimoh Continental Honour

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, has received continental recognition after being named the Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West and Central Africa for 2025 by the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network.

The award was presented during the 19th African Security Watch Awards held in Banjul, The Gambia, in recognition of the exceptional crime prevention initiatives and security reforms introduced by Jimoh while serving as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

Although the senior police officer was unable to attend the event due to official engagements, the organisers later presented the award to him in Lagos through the International Coordinator of the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network, Patrick Agbambu, and the organisation’s National Coordinator, Elizabeth Ndanku.

Speaking during the presentation, AIG Jimoh described the honour as a tribute to the dedication and professionalism of the officers and men who worked alongside him in Lagos. He noted that the award reflected the collective efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and the unwavering support of the people of Lagos in advancing public safety.

According to him, one of the major achievements of his administration was the transformation of the Eko Strike Force, which grew from only two patrol vehicles to more than 18 operational units. The enhanced patrol teams, working in collaboration with the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), significantly improved response time to emergencies and strengthened the state’s capacity to combat criminal activities.

The AIG also attributed the successes recorded in Lagos to effective community policing, saying residents consistently partnered with the police by providing credible intelligence that aided crime prevention and law enforcement operations.

Highlighting another milestone of his tenure, Jimoh recalled the peaceful conduct of the local government elections across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of Lagos State. He noted that the elections were conducted without any incidents of ballot box snatching or attacks on voters, describing the exercise as evidence of effective security planning and coordination.

Presenting the award, Patrick Agbambu praised AIG Jimoh’s outstanding record of service, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest police officers whose career has been defined by discipline, integrity and operational excellence.

Agbambu noted that beyond reducing crime, Jimoh strengthened public confidence in policing by promoting closer collaboration between the police and the communities they serve. He added that the recognition was based on the visible impact of his leadership, particularly in crime prevention, public security and police-community relations during his time as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

In his remarks, AIG Jimoh reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and property, pledging to continue deploying proactive policing strategies and intelligence-led operations in his current role as Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2.

The award further cements AIG Jimoh’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading law enforcement officers, whose innovative policing strategies and commitment to public safety continue to earn recognition beyond Nigeria’s borders.
