Abuja Tanker Fire: FFS Confirms Four Injured, Says Blaze Fully Extinguished

ABUJA — The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has declared the fire incident involving a petroleum tanker at AYM Shafa Filling Station in Area 3, Garki, Abuja, fully extinguished.

The incident occurred at the filling station beside the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) Office along Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti Way while a tanker carrying about 60,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was discharging its product.

The FFS, in a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer and Head of Corporate Services, DCF P.O. Abraham, said the fire also affected part of the adjoining three-storey FCT-IRS building.

According to the Service, the Controller-General, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who acted as Incident Commander, personally coordinated the emergency response and remained at the scene until the early hours of Friday.

The fire was eventually contained through the coordinated deployment of multiple firefighting appliances, medium water jets and foam compound.

The Service disclosed that four adult males sustained various degrees of injuries during the incident.

It said the injured persons were evacuated by a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment and were later discharged.

Following a comprehensive inspection of the affected area, the FFS said firefighters confirmed that there was no further fire and no additional casualty.

It added that all personnel and firefighting appliances deployed to the scene had safely returned to their respective stations.

The Service commended residents, motorists and members of the public for cooperating with emergency responders and complying with safety directives throughout the operation.

It equally acknowledged the support of the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, NEMA, the Nigeria Police Force and other emergency response organisations involved in the operation.

The Controller-General also commended the firefighters and other emergency responders for their courage, professionalism and dedication to protecting lives and property.

The FFS said investigation into the incident has commenced to establish its immediate and remote causes.

It added that the findings would be used to develop appropriate preventive measures to minimise the risk of similar incidents in the future.

The Federal Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property and critical national assets through prompt and coordinated emergency response.
