In a decisive move to enforce workplace safety and uphold regulatory compliance, the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations, led by Hon. David Idris Zacharias, today conducted an on-the-spot assessment at Intercontinental Distillers Limited in Otta, Ogun State.

The visit is part of the Committee’s ongoing oversight function aimed at promoting industrial safety, reducing workplace hazards, and enhancing employee welfare across Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

Speaking during the inspection tour, Hon. Zacharias, who represents Idah Federal Constituency in Kogi State, emphasized the critical importance of compliance with occupational safety regulations. He noted that a safe working environment is essential not only for the health and well-being of employees but also for productivity and national economic growth.

“We are here to ensure that safety standards are not just on paper but actively implemented. Our goal is to promote a culture of safety that protects workers and boosts industrial performance,” Hon. Zacharias stated.

The Committee engaged extensively with the management of Intercontinental Distillers Limited, reviewing safety protocols, hazard control measures, and emergency preparedness systems. The lawmakers also inspected various sections of the production plant to assess first-hand the working conditions and safety equipment in place.

The management of Intercontinental Distillers Limited expressed appreciation for the visit, assuring the Committee of their commitment to continuous improvement and alignment with all statutory safety requirements.
