ABUJA – In what could mark a significant turning point in the political history of Kogi East, the member representing Idah, Ibaji, Igalamela/Odolu and Ofu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. David Idris Zacharias, has brought together former and serving lawmakers from the constituency in a renewed drive for unity and collective development.
The high-level meeting, held at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, brought together Hon. Zacharias, Hon. Frank Ineke, Hon. J.J. Napoleon Idachaba, Rt. Hon. Ismail Inah Hussain and Hon. Dr. Emmanuel M. Egwu.
At the end of the meeting, the lawmakers signed a unity and development communiqué, committing themselves to working collectively towards strengthening political unity, promoting development and advancing the common interests of the people across the four local government areas that make up the federal constituency.
Speaking during the meeting, Zacharias stressed the need for leaders to rise above political differences and put the interests of their constituents at the centre of their actions.
According to him, the development of Idah Federal Constituency requires the collective wisdom, experience and support of both serving and former representatives, regardless of their political affiliations.
“This is about our people and our future. The responsibility of building a stronger and more prosperous Idah Federal Constituency belongs to all of us, irrespective of political backgrounds,” Zacharias said.
The lawmakers identified infrastructure, youth empowerment, agriculture, economic opportunities and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders as priority areas requiring concerted efforts.
They also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation among political leaders and stakeholders in Kogi East, particularly in advancing the social and economic interests of the Igala people.
In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the lawmakers expressed appreciation to the people of Idah Federal Constituency, Kogi East and Kogi State for their continued support and confidence over the years.
They further pledged to support initiatives and programmes capable of improving the welfare, economic prospects and overall quality of life of the people.
The meeting has been described by political observers as a significant and unprecedented convergence of past and present representatives of the constituency, with expectations that the new partnership could promote political stability, deepen consultation and accelerate development.
The gathering also signals a renewed emphasis on consensus-building and collective leadership in Kogi East, as the former and serving lawmakers pledged to sustain the spirit of cooperation and place the interests of the people above political differences.
