A public advocate for the reconstruction of the Abuja–Bagana–Idah Federal Road, I.D. Ijele, has welcomed what he described as a positive step by the media team of Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho toward advancing efforts to secure federal intervention on the critical highway.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ijele said the decision by the senator’s media team to initiate engagement and begin compiling relevant documents for submission to the lawmaker’s legal team marks a significant development in the campaign for the reconstruction of the road.
According to him, the documentation is expected to support the preparation of an appropriate motion that would be presented on the floor of the Senate in pursuit of the project’s implementation.
Describing the development as encouraging, Ijele expressed hope that the initiative would translate into concrete legislative action capable of accelerating the rehabilitation of the Abuja–Bagana–Idah Federal Road.
“The Abuja–Bagana–Idah Federal Road is beyond politics; it is a necessity,” he stated, adding that the campaign has never been driven by personalities or political affiliations but by the collective interest of the people who depend on the highway.
He noted that the road remains a vital economic corridor linking communities in Kogi State and the Eastern region of the country, stressing that every sincere effort aimed at its reconstruction deserves the support of stakeholders regardless of political differences.
Ijele also appealed for patience, saying he would, within the next 48 to 72 hours, publish a comprehensive assessment of the road project to encourage informed public discourse and ensure transparency in the advocacy process.
He urged residents and other stakeholders to remain focused on achieving tangible results rather than allowing distractions to derail the campaign.
The Abuja–Bagana–Idah Federal Road has long been a source of concern for commuters, transport operators and businesses due to its deteriorating condition. Stakeholders have consistently called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to prioritise its reconstruction, citing its strategic importance to economic activities and regional connectivity.
